Indigenous women enacted Emergency Decree |

Women of the main Andean and Amazonian indigenous organizations yesterday signed an emergency decree as an expression of their wish to exercise their right to self determination. The document was presented publicly at a ritual ceremony conducted yesterday afternoon at the university campus located in the Cercado de Lima.
The decree is signed by the Interethnic Association for Development of the Peruvian Rainforest (AIDESEP), the Confederation of Communities Affected by Mining (CONACAMI), the National Agrarian Confederation (CNA), the Peasant Confederation of Peru (CCP) and the National Organization of Andean and Amazonian Indigenous Women of Peru (ONAMIAAP).
The above document is silent on issues such as territorial rights, political participation, identity and indigenous education, health and indigenous ancestral knowledge, as well as violence against women. At the ceremony yesterday attended Congresswoman Hilaria Supa Cusco, Quechua indigenous woman from the village, which has become a symbol of identity for its reaffirmation in the Andean values and being the victim of discrimination.
Indigenous Peoples and Nationalities, sign this Emergency Ordinance "Indigenous Women of Peru in the International Women's Day" exercise our right of self determination in accordance with Convention No. 169 of the International Labor Organization (OIT) and the Declaration of United Nations Indigenous Peoples' Right.
We, the Andean and Amazonian indigenous women, we stated that today as 100 years ago, we remain invisibilities, discriminated against, excluded and marginalized by the major groups entrenched in power. They always want to speak for us, but it's time to lift up our voice, with strength and conviction to tell the Peru and the world that we are still fighting and defending the rights of our Mother Earth, being the kindest female spirit of the universe.
